Taking a refreshing break

I’ve spoken with two coaching clients this week who have taken a different approach to work this summer. Both are business owners who, by their own admission, spend almost every waking moment thinking about their businesses.

Over the course of the coaching sessions with each of them, we’ve talked a lot about work-life balance and the importance of being able to switch off. One of them admitted that they had really tested the experience of ‘letting go’ this summer – that they had decided to react in a more easy-going way to issues within the business and had come to accept that failures are useful learning tools, not things to fret about. In their words, they were ‘taking a more mature approach’ to the business. That’s a phrase I really like and will be stealing with pride.

The other client went on holiday and actually deleted the email app from their phone while they were away. They made it clear they were available by phone call or text for any emergencies. Happily, they received no calls while abroad and the business was still functioning when they got back!

It’s a long bank holiday weekend in the UK – so why not switch off, take pleasure in a sunset or two and return invigorated on Tuesday.

Enjoy
